Simply Done: The Most Beautiful Linen Closet

Jun 11

Every client and project gives me reason to pause in gratefulness. You have heard me tout this time and again, but it’s true. There will never be a day I don’t stop to completely absorb that feeling. Because Lord help me, the day I don’t feel that way, I have a serious problem. Ha! #noegosallowed ย Feels as if the projects keep getting better / larger, the clients more lovely and, on top of everything else, I gain amazing new experiences. Good and not so great. Experience is everything, especially in this profession.

Anyway, I could continue to gush about how sweet, kind and talented each woman is who hires me (they are!)…but I’m here to share a recent project that turned out so beautifully I wanted to move in. Or at least come home to duplicate it! This linen closet is easily going down as one of my all-time faves…

How To Organize A Linen Closet by Simply Organized

( small metal baskets | wicker basket | stool )

This sweet mama of 3 little boys has the more exceptional taste. Her home is stunning…so when I presented her with basket / containment options for this large closet, I was excited when she chose the selection from Target.

What you didn’t see before hand was the amount of items she purged. She did a great job paring down to bedding sets they actually use, she let go of baby bath towels (always a heart-tugging decision) and old, worn out pillows. Actually it was quite a bit more than that and the back of my truck was full. So super proud of her…and after all that work, she deserved a beautiful after…

Linen Closet Organized with Target Baskets

( medium metal baskets )

We left the bath towels on the shelf and not in a basket because it didn’t make sense here. They grab for towels more often than anything else in here, so why create more work for her to fold and put into a basket each time she washes. However, the bedding sets were folded neatly and separated by pattern / bed size. To make sure she didn’t forget which was where, I labeled the shelf fronts…

Personally, for beautiful baskets like these, I felt that hanging labels or tags would make the space look messy. Adding a label to the front of shelves and tops of dresser drawers is something I love to do. It’s simple, convenient and you can easily peel off the clear label to update when necessary.

How To Fold A Fitted Sheet

If you’re wondering how to fold a fitted sheet, don’t forget I made a video! You can spy that here.

What remains in this organized linen closet is bedding for all of the beds in the house, including guest blow-up mattresses, bath towels, wash cloths, hand towels, extra pillows, regular pillow cases, out of season quilts, throw pillows, shams and throw pillow covers, cleaning rags, swim / pool towels, baby bedding / bibs for when friends and family visit, medicine and first-aid items … which were placed up high to keep out of reach.

Sorry, but I am totally obsessed with the outcome. It’s gorgeous and there’s still room to grow into the space.

If you love this linen closet and would like to shop the space, you can find everything I used right here…

Happy organizing and will be back soon to share the playroom to end all playrooms!

My daughter is getting ready to go to college and she and her roommate like the ideas of using the wire baskets for their towels and for their hair dryers and straighteners. Where can we purchase these square baskets and how much are they. They would need to be hung on the wall with Command strips.

    Thank you
    Kimberly Coffman

    • Samantha says:

      Hi Kimberly,

These square baskets are from Target but they are too heavy to hang on the wall with command strips / hooks. I’d definitely suggest something lighter – do you have a container store nearby where you can check out some other baskets that can be wall mounted with adhesive?

How very sweet and beautiful! Was wondering what happens when a set of sheets is pulled out and they are no longer standing up vertically in the basket? Is another set put in it’s place to keep things tidy? Also if the towels are reached for more frequently, was there a deliberate decision to keep them pushed to the side instead of more front and center. Only asking because we would have a similar setup of linens and towels. Btw, I bought those same baskets from Target years ago (just liked the look but didnt have an immediate purpose in mind) and I use them kind of randomly so maybe they would be better used storing linens ๐Ÿ™‚

I will be working with her in the coming weeks – we are organizing her pantry. I’ll ask her how it’s holding up…but the plan we had was for freshly cleaned bedding to go back into the empty spaces. That would keep items from flopping over. Not every space will stay perfectly organized…it’s always a goal we are reaching for but she has 3 children…not always possible. ๐Ÿ™‚

Can you tell me where you got your baskets and what their demensions are? I cannot find baskets tall enough to fit my sheets, especially the king size sheets
