Our New Life At The Kitchen Counter

Sep 27

Welcome to our new kitchen…but more importantly, welcome to our new beautiful chapter. One filled with happiness, hope, big love, a little more square footage to clean / organize / decorate…and a few more people we are totally obsessed with.

Which also means a lot more time in the kitchen. And I have no problem with that!…

You’ve been asking for more photos of the new house. I hesitate to share too much right off the bat because there’s been a lot of change, I have cautiously shared online about the personal side of my life, and there’s a lot to catch you up on. Over time and in small amounts I’ll begin to share more about this new chapter. And with consideration for everyone living here.

But when Serena & Lily reached out to partner on a story about “Life at the Kitchen Counter” including their pretty counter and bar stools….there was no more perfect way OR time to finally welcome you inside.

So, welcome to the kitchen…a space that doesn’t have a bad angle or shot due to its total beauty, warmth AND the amount of natural bright light filtering in all day long.

The kitchen is definitely the heart of this home and the space everyone gathers. Forget about the adjacent family room – I can count on 1 hand how many times we sat down in there since moving in this summer. Everyone instead gathers in the kitchen. We made the space cozy by adding a couple chairs, but the counter is where it all goes down. Where everyone stands or sits…or even quite literally sits on the counter.

And this counter was in desperate need of a few stools.

You’re all too familiar with Serena & Lily’s most famous stool from their Riviera collection. I’ve seen it everywhere due to its stunning and classic appearance…

We opted for their backless counter stool in the color fog, which ties into our space beautifully!…

I love the woven texture of the seat and the rattan legs are a nice compliment to the hardwood floors…

With 5 kids living here + all of the gatherings we’ve been hosting, I love how easy the seat cleans up…

These counter stools truly are beautiful – I’m not just saying that because Serena & Lily partnered with me for this post. It’s true!

Napkins are a must-have in this house and I leave a small collection on the counter near the table…these are a pretty addition no matter the style of your kitchen!…

It’s obvious I took all of the above photos while the kids were at school. It’s so clean with no counter clutter. For the amount of space and people living here, I’ve actually been pretty good about maintaining and keeping it together. Helps I’m the type who can’t go to bed without a clean house / kitchen… I may be exhausted by the end of the day when done cleaning…but I’m too happy to care. That’s what tubs are for. 🙂

Anyway, now that you’ve seen the kitchen empty, here’s how it typically looks…and where you can hunt me down 9 times out of 10…

Right here at the kitchen counter.

Right with the people who mean the most… minus one very special person I hope to introduce you to next week.

This is the exact spot you can find me standing most days. At the counter. Cutting fruit or veggies or making 3 (or 1,000,000) meals a day. Blocking the silverware drawer so people need to ask me to move when they need a fork. Obsessing over a new recipe. Figuring out how to appease everyone’s varying diets – we have a near-vegan and a dairy-free…along with your general picky eater types. Or there’s someone hovering over me to grab food right off the cutting board because they’re “starving”.

It’s my new life at the counter…and I love every face in here staring back at me.

Although only living here since end of June, there have already been countless stories and laughs and gatherings and tears shed at this counter. Decisions made – big and small. Conversations and lessons about friendships. One big family meeting about chores and being considerate of one another. There’s been a lot of change and adjustments and challenges…a lot of late nights or long weekends completing homework assignments…

But mostly – love and happiness and laughter and music…and a lot of food prepared and eaten here too….

I’ve said this a billion times to this crew but I’d happily live in a cardboard box with these people. Mean it. They completely fulfill my life and give me a reason to wake up every morning fired up to tackle a new day. Even when the days are tiring, long, mentally and physically exhausting from organizing or unpacking a 12,000 square foot home (yes, that just happened – true!) or figuring out how to get all 5 of these people to school and activities. Doesn’t matter – love them more than anything and so grateful for this new chapter we’re blessed with.

These smiles are everything…

I hope you enjoyed this peek into our life at the kitchen counter. Partnering with Serena & Lily for this post was the perfect opportunity to begin letting you in. Looking forward to more memories ahead in this space.

If you’re interested in the details behind these stools, you can find the details right here – along with a link to the napkins too!…

Gorgeous kitchen. Everything is pretty. Love the fireplace. Im just curious , are those counterstools or barstools?. There doesnt seem to be room for your legs. Im asking, because I’m looking for counterstools too.

    • Samantha says:

Thank you!!! Love the fireplace in here too – just need to figure out how to make it work. Ha!

These are barstools – we wanted the option of also using them outside and the outside bar is bar height. These are so great!!!

Looks wonderful! But don’t understand how you use those stools to sit at the counter! They seem too tall!

    • Samantha says:

They are bar height stools – we chose these so we can also use them outside at a bar that is much taller. We have another set of counter stools as well that are shorter. 🙂
