At Home: Dining Room Dreams

Since Thanksgiving is only a couple days away (what?!) this is the perfect time to share the current state of our dining room. We had hopes to update the space before Thanksgiving in order to host, but other projects took priority. There’s a lot to do around here, what can we say! We’re hoping to have the space completed by Christmas to instead host during that holiday. Excited to get the ball rolling – especially when we can save money making updates during great holiday sales!

The dining room is a space in the house that can be seen from several other spaces, so we really want it to be special and beautiful…a bright, happy spot in the house…a comfortable space to host family and friends…and a room where we can make some serious memories. Here’s a view in from the family room…

The fact this space is so close to the entry is another reason we want it to be beautiful and inviting.

As it sits now, this was Billy’s kitchen table from his old house. The rug is from my old office. The buffet is from my old living room. We’ve pieced it together and it’s not bad…but it’s definitely not a dining room prepared to host a gathering of people. The table is small … doesn’t even provide enough room for the 7 of us because there’s only 6 chairs.

We’re not planning on anything over the top in improvements – just a table, updated wallpaper and new lighting. The space is pretty enough that we just need a few small updates. And I love the windows as is – not sure we even need window coverings. Maybe something sheer and classic?

I’ve also worked in countless homes that were recently decorated or renovated – many of these are decorated with S&L furnishings. Benefit is I am able to touch and sit on these items to see just how quality they are. I can personally vouch for the fact everything from Serena & Lily is incredible!

Anyway… our jaws dropped when we saw this dining room table and chairs!…it’s for sure the front runner…

How perfect would this be in the dining room? I love the white table, the chairs and the area rug too. Not totally sure how I feel about a bench on one side – Billy feels the same way. I think we are leaning toward all chairs. I love the little lumbar pillows too…love the blush color.

The table has 2 shallow drawers on either end…really great idea for some hidden storage!

This chandelier is so pretty and could possibly work in the space, but if we opted for that one…what would we do about the wall sconces?

Love this area rug!

I’m not usually a fan of rugs under a table, but it would definitely warm up the space and it’s not a hard, rough jute. It’s subtle and soft under your feet.

Don’t think the dining room can handle a chandelier that large, but it’s pretty.

I’m not a designer by any stretch and was struggling with where to begin….first choose the wallpaper and lighting THEN the table and chairs? Or vice versa? Turns out we found the table and chairs first…so we’ll go with that. I’m confident we’ll find something to go with the furnishings.

The wallpaper isn’t that offensive…but it’s dated and as I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’d love to help this house feel updated and happy with itself…

Lighting for sure needs an update.

My absolute favorites from this grouping are the flannel pj’s, pinecone wreath and the napkins. You really can’t go wrong gifting any of those.
