Recently a mom reached out about needing help in her teen daughter’s closet. Her closet is one I actually organized years ago when she was in elementary school. But now that she’s a junior in high school, the closet wasn’t hitting it anymore.
While there for the consultation, and enjoying every minute of her humor and spirit, we got to thinking it may be better for us to first re-organize the vanity and bathroom because those two spots were a major pain point for her. Additionally, she wanted to spend the time decluttering on her own before I took on a potential closet design.
This is not abnormal to think I’m consulting on one space and have it flip completely. Talking out loud really helps narrow in on what’s really bugging you. And getting ready for school each day was an issue. Her bathroom counter was covered with items and there wasn’t much in terms of organizing solutions.
BEFORE
She has a little 5-drawer vanity in her bedroom space. This is where she mostly does her hair and make-up, so in the drawers are all of her hair tools, brushes and make-up…

At first glance, you may look at the drawers and think it’s not that bad. The categories weren’t together and the drawer organizers didn’t fit properly.
Side note: Look at this note she left for us…so sweet!

The bathroom has pretty deep drawers, other than the top two. And as previously mentioned, she had a lot of stuff on the counter…

Under a sink, no matter which space, is always such a pesky area to work with. The pipes can be difficult to work around. But we got it organized perfectly for her!
AFTER
Using a combination of clear and modular organizing solutions, here’s how everything shaped up!
I LOVE these drawer organizers! This is the Container Store’s new brand and they are low-cost and have grippy feet to keep them from shifting…

Her countertop is not large. She had the face cloths and q-tips taking up a large amount of room. Instead, I gave her a spot where each can sit and be replenished as needed…

These modular drawer organizers fit like an actual glove! Look at this…

( modular bins )
I like to label the top of the clips so you know exactly where everything is and where to put it away…

Under her sink, I opted for 3 modular drawers with 2 open bins on top for the taller items…

She now has backstock items stored down here and a whole drawer for travel.
In her vanity we used a combination of the drawer organizers…

We like to label the top of the drawer frame in some cases and that’s what we did here. Instead of labeling the top clips…all of the items in this drawer are skincare, so we opted to keep it simple this way.
Speaking of labeling, our go-to label maker is currently on a limited time deal, if you need one. This prints both a 1/2″ and 1″ label. LOVE it!
In just a couple hours – total organization. She was SO happy and sent the sweetest note after getting home from school.
If you like these products, I have them linked throughout the post for you. 🙂
Hope you’re enjoying the week!
