The South’s Gorgeous Fall

Nov 30

It’s been a busy week around here so thought my blog (and spirit) could use a lift. What better way to make me and you smile than seeing gorgeous fall color. Fall has always been my favorite season. While growing up in California I loved everything fall, I didn’t know how much more I could love a season until moving to an area with color. If you’ve never had the opportunity to see fall colors, you must plan a vacation to take it in!
Fall colors are a gift!
And in this area of the country, after enduring long, hot, humid summers (that seem to last for 8 months!), fall is our gift for hanging in there…and surviving.
Every fall color palate is a bit different. This is our 6th in this area and every year has been a different experience. Sometimes the color starts as early as August and lasts until November. Sometimes the color comes late and leaves early. Sometimes the colors are vibrant and the landscape looks like jewel-tones. And sometimes the colors are sad and muted. The weather guys say the color depends on the amount of rain that year and how hot/humid the summer temps were. Interesting.
In any event, doesn’t matter what the amount of time…fall is always a blessing and always beautiful.
This season not only makes me happy in general but it’s also a time of the year when I feel most sentimental. My first child was born in the fall, so there is always the excitement of re-living that season of life again as I prepare for a birthday. And it’s a time to reflect on blessings we have as we spend more time with friends and family, and enjoy this magical time of year with our children.
Guess I’m in a sappy mood today. Sorry! Let’s move on to some color!
We don’t have to go far to see color. We’re surrounded by trees and nature. Here is some color right inside my neighborhood…

A few weeks ago I took the kids for a walk outside our neighborhood and captured these gorgeous colors. If only I could press the pause button on life when it looks like this…
Sometimes the color is so amazing, I have to pull the car over to snap a photo. Here are a few images taken safely from the side of the road. Gives you an idea of the overall landscape colors…love the color mixed with the green pine trees…
My favorite image while on the side of the road….the colors and that bit of low-lying fog. This was on the way to school one morning. The kids really tripped out when we stopped (and mommy didn’t seem so rushed like a usual school morning) so that I could snap this photo…
From a local park…

When the weather is cool, we get outside as often as possible…

The kids get excited when furry visitors (the good kind!) come to visit…
The leaves are now falling and color is quickly fading. Always a sad time. But love having the images to look back on. If you don’t have fall colors in your area, I hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of ours!

You live in a beautiful area!!! I will fly to visit my friend in TN in Oct. to see the season change. Didn't get to go this year and really missed it. Here in Cali, you just don't get that kind of beauty.
