The last time we spoke about lighting was when I updated all of the old recessed lights with new LED lights…

 

I can’t believe that was all the way back in September! Seems like just last month I updated those lights.

Since there has been a lot of lighting updates over the last few months, I thought it was high (ha!) time I chatted a bit about my new ceiling lights. Yup, I finally purchased and installed some new, updated lights. Only took me months of searching and obsessing. Go me, right?

So, the issue here is the ceilings in this house are incredibly low. All of the lighting I fell in love with was too low to both look nice and not hurt people walking around the house. Remember these 2 lights that used to hang in the kitchen…

 

And this chandelier that used to hang in the master bathroom?…

Major head hazards. And I still have no idea how the previous owners survived lived with these. My story had been they were elves, but that freaked the kids out and now they keep waking me up at night to ask if the elves are still here. Mom of the year award recipient, right here!

Actually, I’m still trying to figure out kitchen lighting. This is how it looks right now…yes, still…

 

But I am happy to report that I made some lighting accomplishments and updates around other rooms in the house.

Let’s start in Natalie’s room. Her lighting was the most challenging to find because she really wanted a chandelier. I tried several but they each hung too low. However, I did manage to find one (yay!) that only hangs down 13″, which was the max I was willing to go. It’s the Blossom Chandelier from Pottery Barn Teen…

It really is a beautiful light! I have it on a dimmer which helps at night when she’s scared (that the elves are coming) and wants a little light. Or if we want her dresser lamp on but not much more overhead light.

By the way, her dresser lamp (seen in the image above) is the De-Lite Lamp Base & the Ribbon Trim Shade both from Pottery Barn Teen…

 

In the spare room / guest room, I added this beautiful flushmount from Restoration Hardware…

In the hallway and kitchen I went with the same lighting in both spaces. Since you can see both spaces as you walk through, I wanted some continuity. I chose the Olsen Glass Flushmount from Restoration Hardware in Satin Nickel…

In the entry, I went with the Dalton Flushmount from Restoration Hardware in Satin Nickel…

 

As I was looking through old photos for this lighting post, I couldn’t believe what a difference there is here in the entry. Before move-in just a few months ago…

And now…

New light switches, new house paint, white front door, new front door knob, and a new entry light. What a difference a few small changes can make. Feels so much lighter and brighter. And updated! And it will only get better as I finally add an entry table and some wall decor. I’m getting there, folks – slowly. Ha!

I’ve also added a few new lights in the living room. There is still no ceiling light in this space because I’m not sure what will happen in here with the kitchen remodel next year. So I opted for free standing light in this room. I purchased the Chelsea Floor Lamp in Bronze Finish and the Burlap Tapered Shade in Natural…

 

 

 

And on the table I have the Chelsea Table Lamp in Bronze Finish (which I already owned) and updated the shade to match the floor lamp…

 

Again, the lighting in this room will change when the kitchen is remodeled. I was going for lights that could eventually be used in other spaces around the house…and free-standing lighting that the kids wouldn’t get tangled up in / would fit behind furniture pieces.

There is so much beautiful lighting available these days. Trust me, I saw it all! But I’m very happy with what I ended up choosing. These are quality pieces that will last forever.
