Fall Closet Purge & Organization + My Upcoming Martha Stewart NYC Trip

Nov 4

While Fall is a great time to purge out summer and get organized for fall and winter, the real, genuine motivation to tackle this space is because I’m leaving for NYC in 2 days.

To attend this event

Had to stop a moment just now to take a deep breath before I move on.

Now, I’m not going to chatter on about the event because it hasn’t happened and you can count on me definitely sharing alllllll the details and photos after I return next week.

So, back to what got me motived in the first place…3-4 days in NYC….The fashion mecca of the World….And me?…The woman that is so not into the fashion World. Most days you can catch me in workout gear (I do actually work out so it’s not only for comfort), jeans & a shirt, or something sports related. With home chores, errands, my job and the kids, I’m all about cute but comfortable. And I can pull off the above pretty well, if I do say so myself. But there are occasions when a woman needs to look a little more presentable. And this event called for some serious closet purging and a serious stop at Nordstrom.

By the way, no one is paying me to talk about Nordstrom. It happens to be my go-to spot for shopping help because, as I said, I’m not a trend setter or follower. And I have zero patience when it comes to shopping. I know what I want, I show them a picture, and they help me find it. They not only help me with personal shopping, but they make returns super easy. Because we all know clothes can look a whole lot different once you get them home. Can I get an amen?

Anyway, I let my closet go over the last week because I knew it would soon be torn apart for my semi-annual purge dealio. And that dealio happened today. Not sure about you, but I can’t pack until all of my clothes are clean and put away. I have this crazy need to see and know it all before I choose what comes on a trip. You too?

Beyond purging items, I had a few annoying spots in the closet that needed updating as well. To start off any organization project, the mood must be set….candles and music, please. Me and organization have a serious love affair going on…in case you didn’t realize.

My trouble spots can be seen here…

And here on the right…

In the first picture, my little jewelry shelf needed a clean-up, summer t-shirts needed to relocate to higher shelves, while warm sweaters are more accessible. In the 2nd photo, the bedding needed to be re-organized as well as my bag collection.

After a few hours of purging and organizing it now looks like this…

T-shirts up high along with long-sleeve shirts. I folded my athletic sweaters onto 2 shelves and my nicer sweaters on the 2 shelves below them. I now have a workout clothing shelf, seen above my boot section. It looks minimal now because it’s all in the wash.

On this side, I moved the larger bedding items up high since I don’t need them right now, put the sheet sets down lower where I can easily reach and put away after folding, created a new jewelry station and found an unused basket to hold extra bags…

Additional images of those 2 shelves for you…

If you don’t have a dresser or space in your bathroom for jewelry, this is a great way to organize it…

I’ve made progress over the last year adding a few accessories to my collection…

Necklaces are hanging on clear command hooks…

I keep bedding here because there isn’t a spot for it in the master bedroom…

I’ve also slowly added new shoes to my collection…

What used to be only flip-flops and uggs is now a growing collection that includes more boots and heels. I found and fell in love with these 2 and they are definitely coming to NYC with me…

The other side of my closet was purged and organized too…

A few months ago I shared the inside of my drawers in this post, but in case you’re nosy like me interested in taking a peek here you go…

The drawers have held up nicely so not much changed there.

Since we are in the closet and talking about clothes, I’ll share the other items I picked up at Nordie’s. If you’re like me, have no patience for shopping and have little fashion sense, hopefully my sharing is helpful. I’ll share some pics on Instagram while I’m in NYC too so you can see how they look on. I feel like I should completely not be talking about clothing. I have no right to delve into this topic considering my lack of style. But it’s always fun to share and I do enjoy reading about / seeing clothing pictures on other blogs I read. 😉

By adding just a few new pieces, I created a lot of new outfit options. I’m bringing all of the above to NYC along with a few pieces I already own.
It’s time to get into your closet for a good Fall purge! Go get on that and have a great day!

  1. Do you share that closet with your husband or is it all yours. It is really nice. Love the black boots
