Simply Done: A Smart Kitchen

Apr 24

Have I mentioned I love my job? What I love even more is meeting new people with new challenges and helping them get organized.
This precious family of 3 renovated their home a short time ago and not only is it stunning, it’s a smart home.  This is a classic case of undergoing a renovation, moving a couple times while the work was being completed, and then unpacking quickly to get everything out of boxes.
No one is to blame. We’ve all been in the place of trying to unpack quickly so you can feel settled. Most of us don’t know where to begin or where to put items because you haven’t lived in the new space yet. In time those defined spaces and routines become evident, but you’re already buried and don’t know where to start…how to dig out…how to get organized.
After my consult, we narrowed down the kitchen as our first spot. This spacious kitchen with gorgeous finishes, awesome drawers, cabinets and pull-outs was so much fun to work in. And although I was working in the kitchen, organization bled into other areas of the house that you’ll see in a future post.
This great seating area in the kitchen has an L-shaped built-in seating area and underneath are 4 drawers that offer a ton of hidden storage. The drawers are wide and deep but weren’t being used properly, didn’t contain items that should be tucked away down here and over time became too easy to just cram paper and other items into.
Drawer #1 before…
After…
I used 2 additional drawers for overflow kitchen items. These were taking up cabinet space in the kitchen and mom doesn’t use them unless entertaining. Now they are nearby so she can get to them, but away from items used more often.
Drawer #2…
Drawer #3…
You can see how the contents of these 3 drawers could really crowd a cabinet.
The final drawer was full of home hardware they wanted to keep inside…
This drawer required containment due to various small items. My goal was to have it neat and easy to find what they need right away. I used a variety of these…
All 4 fit perfectly inside the drawer – love when that happens!
Looking good!…
They have an incredible pantry…

Before…

Didn’t purchase containment. All I did was pull it all out…

Sorted and tossed…

Then put it away…

Sorta obsessed with this pull-out cupboard as well…

An upper cabinet closest to the garage door before…

Hello lovely…

Mom wanted a spot for keys, coupons & gift cards, incoming mail & stamps, a few office supplies, a couple tools to keep inside the house, spot for loose coins, batteries, and more. This did it!…

Keys hung simply with clear Command hooks

Products used in the landing spot…
Baking center before…

Now we’re ready to bake!…

Slim cabinets that were being under-utilized…

Are now maximizing the space…

Another wide, deep drawer not being used efficiently…

Much better!…

Where’d the water bottles go? We scaled back the supply and they now fit into a cabinet with the rest of the household cups…

A stunning kitchen, made more beautiful with some simple organization.
Hope you guys are having a great week!
