Home Sale Update: Flooring Almost Done

Apr 7

Guys, this is what happens when you are in the midst of a new flooring install…

Good times!

Also happens to be a great opportunity to inspect the condition of your furniture. Amazing how you suddenly see marks or dings that weren’t previously noticeable. My living room couch, for example, could benefit from a cleaning. It’s been up against a wall or window for 6 years…hasn’t moved.

Speaking of furniture…staging the house is going to be fun. But I need to make some decisions as to what is staying or going. The smaller items have been easier to triage, but I need to think about the big furnishings – what will fit / work at our new place, what’s worth keeping for “just in case”…all that stuff. The organizer in me is itching to have decisions made to make the execution easier when it’s time to move.

Anyway, back to flooring!

We’re making pretty good progress, but unfortunately won’t be done until Monday. Was hoping this would be a wrap before the end of the weekend. Apparently we are short about 100 square feet.

Oh – wanted to mention – I am definitely learning how to let things slide throughout the process….and will continue to remind myself of that. One hiccup affects the next step. For example, I wanted the flooring done early this weekend so the painter could be here Monday doing all the interior touch-ups. My kids are gone this weekend and not returning until Monday afternoon…didn’t want them to be affected by this mess. Now with the flooring delayed, the painter will be delayed…which means my kids will be back home when that’s happening.

Best laid plans.

The flooring is completed up the hallway…

In the living room…

And in the kitchen table area…

The flooring is about 3/4 of the way completed in the playroom. What remains is the original master bedroom at the end of the hallway (my son’s room), the actual kitchen floor, and half of the playroom. So going pretty well.

In my final post about the completed flooring, I’ll share my thoughts / feedback on LVP and why I chose to float the flooring.

WEEK AHEAD

It’s going to be a big week ahead and look forward to keeping you in the loop as it progresses:

Flooring completed

Exterior paint begins – I chose paint colors and look forward to sharing them

Exterior lighting – on the hunt for lighting and will share the top runners

Interior trim / paint / touch ups – my painter is going to survey the interior damage after the flooring is completed and baseboards are in. He painted the baseboards already but once installed they need touch-ups as well. And there’s general interior touch-ups that need to happen. By end of week I should have a better idea of what is needed / costs / etc.

Landscaping – am hoping to pick some flowers or plants to add around the mailbox near the street. Also refreshing the front path with new gravel.

The mailbox is at the street, at the end of the long driveway…

I’d love to add mulch up the driveway and out to the mailbox. But adding something pretty around the mailbox would be awesome.

So, making progress…a little slower than your girl would like, but I’ll take what I can get. I have a feeling this week will be pretty huge. And the house being painted is going to be a real showstopper. There will be tears for sure.

Hope you guys are having a great weekend and doing improvement projects of your own.

Back soon with more guys!

xx,

Sam
