If you have an under stairs closet, I’m going to step out on a limb to assume you are intimately familiar with this situation. You know, that angled wall / ceiling with no shelving to be found. AND therefore you have a huge pile of items sitting on the floor. Yes?…
These are the spaces I am sought out for most often. People know, and see in the portfolio, that I’m not afraid to hit these projects straight on.
Generally, in these situations, I lean into an Elfa design. And for a few reasons. Top of the list is that I can cut the material to fit YOUR space perfectly. It’s also the most cost-effective and SPACE PRODUCING option compared to a custom vendor’s design.
BEFORE
Creating space and order in an awkward closet like this is easy. Don’t be afraid to approach this on your own or ask The Container Store or a handyman to install it for you. I’ll even share a video at the end of this blog post where you can see how I installed this section and how easy it was to complete.
In addition to adding a section of shelving, the homeowners also wanted cohesive containment on the custom shelving that already existed in here…
With the space totally cleared out I got to work cutting and installing, while one of my newest team members worked on organizing the closet contents…
AFTER
Here’s the corner with the added Elfa shelving…
You can see how I lined up the 3 shelves to be the same distance apart as the existing custom shelving. But they have room for another 48″ wide shelf if they later choose to do so. Since they are storing bags here temporarily (these will move to the garage in a couple months), this worked out well for now…
So much better than that big ol piles of bags that were previously here…
Using inexpensive handled bins, we also created a more cohesive look overall with their storage. These are just a few dollars each.
VIDEO
As mentioned, here’s a video of me installing the shelving with the overall before and after of this small but mighty closet…
SHOP THE SPACE
If you are interested in shopping this space, you can find the products I used right here…
If you have a closet like this, I hope this gives you hope that it CAN be transformed into a useable space.
Back soon with more and hope you are all doing well!
