What I Wore: Houston Rodeo

Apr 6

Long time dream of mine to attend the Rodeo Houston and this spring I made it happen! It was an incredibly special trip with my middle guy, who will soon be graduating from high school and heading out of state for college. Could not be more proud of this one…

If you aren’t familiar with the rodeo, it lasts for a few weeks. Throughout the timeline, various artists perform each night. As the timing worked out with Spring Break from school, we were able to attend the last and final weekend. Which was amazing because Brooks & Dunn was performing the first night we attended and they have long been on our bucket list.

We flew in on Friday evening and had no idea what to expect. Thankfully, I have a great friend who lives there and is a native so on day one we basically had a tour guide and educator with us. So helpful! And now that I know how this whole event works and what to expect, I’m already talking to friends about planning a girls trip next Spring.

I wanted to share some highlights of my trip but also what I wore because if you have a country concert you are planning to attend this year, these are all SO cute and adorable! This year I am planning to hit a lot of concerts, so these will be worn on repeat. This year I’ve seen Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, Luke Bryan and will be seeing George Strait, Chris Stapleton and Morgan Wallen this summer….eeeek! So excited….especially for George! Number one on my concert bucket list. Period.

DAY ONE

Day one the weather was perfect! I found this dress from Vici and paired it with a few items from Amazon and Altr’d State – all linked below the photo.

The boots are so comfortable! Today we did a fair amount of walking because our uber driver dropped us in the wrong location, but I was comfortable the entire day! We left the hotel at noon and returned around 9pm – no foot issues at all! No blisters.

On this day, we hit the shopping area of the Rodeo which was really cool – a lot of livestock to see and a huge area for children to play and interact with animals.

I have been to a Rodeo before. This is crazy to say from a San Francisco native, but growing up in SF we would attend the livestock shows and rodeos at the Cow Palace. It’s still around and funny enough, a year or so ago my son and his friends went there for a concert. I had not heard of that venue in such a long time! lol!

Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve been to one and this was certainly unique because it was taking place in Texas. There’s so much history with this event and it was amazing to learn about. This day was the finals so it was a very exciting event. The rodeo begins at 2:45 and as soon as the competition / events are over with, the iconic stage is rolled out to the middle of the arena and that nights’ performer comes on. Tonight it was Brooks & Dunn and they did not disappoint! Even though Ronnie Dunn was recovering from Covid AND strep throat…

Ronnie was dripping sweat the entire concert. No one else was and I was like, wow…maybe he’s just really hot. But at one point he finally opened up to the crowd about recovering from being so sick. Later on I saw this repost of an article on his social media…

I was so grateful he was able to perform. What a guy!

The concert was unbelievable – SO SO GOOD! What I love so much about this type of performance is that there is no opening act. It’s straight to business! You know how that can be at a typical concert….seems like you wait for hours for the performer to finally come out. This was right to the point and they performed for an hour without breaks. Again, soooooo good!

I love this hat so much. It’s glittery and a gold color. As always, you can see video of me sharing these details on my LTK account if you want to see them in motion!

DAY TWO

Day two, my son and I were on our own, which was great! We spent the day walking through the entire shopping hall and then at 2:45 got into our seats for the championship. Today was the last day and the events didn’t end until 7pm. It was the championship for all of the rodeo events, winnings were collected by the event winners, speeches were given and there was a lot of ceremony around this 2025 rodeo coming to an end. It was really cool!

Today I was glad to have long sleeves because it was raining and a little windy…

This dress is also from Vici, boots from Amazon and hat from Altr’d State. I LOVE this hat so much! It’s white and it has a beautiful clover pendant trim. Received a lot of compliments on the hat!

This evening Luke Bryan performed and he blew it out! I’ve seen him perform before but this was unreal! He spent time walking the entire arena floor and the surrounding seats…look at this!…

He hopped right up in front of us and stood there singing for a while. Very engaging with the crowd and always a great performance to see.

An incredibly fun time! And definitely on my travel list for 2026!

When I returned home, I was excited to learn my Arkansas Razorbacks were playing in the NCAA tournament in San Francisco…so I threw on one of these outfits again and headed to the city…

See…didn’t even unpack my suitcase – lol! Changed and hit the game.

A little different this Spring Break but very fun nonetheless!

Came home to these beautifully organized PR packages from out cat sitter – she knows the way to my aesthetic heart…

I’ll be opening these and sharing more about what’s inside very soon…and I also have some news to share in the coming weeks. Need confirmation that it’s happening before I do share it, but it’s all good news and I’ll be blogging about it quite a bit.

I also wanted to mention that if you prefer getting your blog content from Substack, I have joined that platform. I’ll be posting the same blog content over there, BUT there’s a paid subscription level as well where I plan to share more deep dives and answer your personal questions. Many bloggers I enjoy reading are on Substack, so if you follow other bloggers be sure to search and see if they are there too!

Hope you are enjoying the start of spring! Back with more soon!

xoxo,

Sam
