Organized Desktop – with Martha Stewart

Aug 19

It’s a great, sunny Monday here at my house! This week we have a lot going on as I continue unpacking the remaining boxes, field contractors at the house, and get the kids ready for back to school…Just 8 days to go!

With school gearing up, the first area of the house to get organized is the office. This space isn’t only where I work on the blog (and my future organization business) and take photos, it’s also a space for the kids to do homework or use their computer. A computer in close range of mom, where I can monitor use….

Most importantly, it’s going to be the one and only space in the house where we organize school work, schedules, bills, house projects, contractor info, lots of paper, and much more. So it has to be functional. And because I don’t work well in a messy environment, it has to be clean..And pretty.

When my friends at Martha Stewart sent me this box of candy…

I knew my new office would be exactly what I was dreaming of….Functional AND pretty!

Here’s my new desktop…

But before it looked this inviting, this is where I started…

Oh yea, it was a beast before it became a beauty. For sure.

I started by clearing the desktop and playing around with my Martha Stewart home office items. A few months ago, I worked with Martha Stewart while promoting her new wall manager. It worked so well in the old house keeping us organized. I knew exactly where it would go in this new office space. I laid it out…

Played with the format, then easily installed it on the wall over the desk. This wall manager is simple to install. It even has a built-in level for easy installation without the need for extra tools. If I ever want to change the layout, the components pop off the wall mounts to be arranged a different way. Here’s how I set up the wall manager…

The file holder and component with caddies is closest to where the kids will work…

Next was making this wall manager pretty and useful….

The file folder component…

To create these beautiful files I used Martha’s patterned file folders, added her permanent labels, and added a clear label with my label maker…

We’re ready for school papers…

The next component will hold their school supplies, which will be purchased after receiving supply lists this week…

The dry erase calendar will be used to keep track of school deadlines, projects and sports – all related to the kids. now they’ll have a visual…

And finally, closest to my work space, is the cork board….

I love positive affirmations and these 3 have recently tugged at this girl’s heartstrings…

love!!! Amazing how so few words can change your day’s outlook.

Directly under the wall manager are a few of Martha’s stack + fit shagreen trays…

Currently, my trays are holding push pins, post-it notes/flags, washi tape, dry erase board materials, chalk, tape and a measuring tape…

Moving on with my work space…

…Ss a small chalkboard gifted to me by one of my very best friends in Arkansas…

This board holds a special place in my heart. A very special place. This California native fell head over heels in love with the natural state. I’m currently having withdrawals. Seeing this board reminds me of my dear friends in Arkansas and that I always have a sweet place to visit and call my second home.

On the left side of my computer is more of Martha’s stack + fit organizers…

What’s organized here? Small supplies like mini post-it notes, paper clips, binder clips, file folder labels, and a small Martha Stewart accordion file for containing business expenses…

I also created a space to quickly access home projects i’m working on at the moment. These are just 3 of the projects you’ll be hearing a lot about in the coming weeks, but there is much more.Ttrust me…

I love these beautiful Martha file folders. They brighten this space…And my face!…

Behind the file folders I have the latest Martha Stewart Living magazine, which is a guide to San Francisco. Talk about timing! Can’t wait to explore some new (and old) San Francisco spots. And I have her Best of Martha Stewart Organizing publication tucked back there too. Love this! One of you will win a copy this week!

During the move I needed a small calendar to track appointments. My move binder was overloaded and my phone battery wasn’t keeping up with my abuse. This was my salvation for the last 4 weeks…

While it was a 3rd hand for me, it’s going to change this week when i share my new, updated blog notebook and home schedule binder. Yes, courtesy of Martha’s products!

Finally, at the end of the desk is my printer…

Supplies are stowed away in the drawer directly below it…

I love working here!…

Happy, productive and organized girl this morning!

Hi Samantha! I'm new to your blog and loving it! I live in Australia so I don't recieve your emails until mid afternoon which I look forward to each day as it allows me to take a break from work, grab and coffee and read up on what you have been up to :)The way you have been organising your 'BIG' move has been great. You are an inspiration! I'm looking forward to finding out about your new notebook and home schedule binder. Keep you the great work. Mel

oh Samantha my sweet dear Samantha! … you have created, in every inch, my dream home office!

    I have a few questions …

    1. how does one qualify to receive such a bountiful sweet package such as yours from Martha Stewart?
(Buying one piece each month is EXCRUCIATING!)

    2. I am on a new steady fixed income and need to create a financial binder to keep my finances organized.
Do you have a blog post about how you handle yours? I would really appreciate taking a glance at it.
I'm overwhelmed with all the options, everyone has their own way of doing it.
(p.s. i'm going with the cash envelope system for this year to see if that works for me, but am floundering in
figuring out the mechanics of it, it isn't as easy as it sounds).

    3. Your desk is to die for! Is that a glass top cut to fit the wall/corner and supported by file cabinets?

    Thank you for your time.

    How do you order ?

I'd Love To Hear From You!
