Outdoor Update: Fences Are Complete!

Apr 25

Praise. The. Lord. Another major home improvement project = completed. Done. Finito. Wrapped up. Shut down.

And it’s a beaut, my friends.

The fences on both sides of the house, backyard and the swing set area are now complete. Gates up. Pretty hardware added. Stained.

As I share the outcome of these gorgeous fences, can we just take a moment to appreciate where I started with the project? These before and afters = Mind blowing! It’s amazing how something as simple as fencing can completely change the look of your outdoor space. Ok, ok – I realize I’ve done quite a bit more than just fencing out here (new grass, sprinklers, drainage, brick patio / paths, renovated swimming pool, etc)….but in my honest opinion, the fence really takes it to the next level of beautiful.

Let the photos speak for themselves…

I’m sure you catch the drift – huuuuuuge improvement! Including a better sense of security – not only was there not a fence on the left side of the house since last June, many of the fence slats were wide enough that the kids could easily fit through. That includes our neighbor’s dogs…we found many random dogs around the house property.
So, now that you’ve seen some before and after comparison shots, here’s several more detailed before’s that explain just how bad the fencing situation was around here…

This gate wasn’t to code for the swimming pool…

In a week’s time, the fencing came down…

“Mommy, where’d it go?!”…

And I got a very close look at what my lovely neighbors had going on in their yards…

Kindling anyone?…

The posts went up…

And framing for the top lattice and base kickboards…

Then the fence slats went up…this is very technical talk, you know…

The longest stretch of shared fencing was completed first…

This neighbor has 4 dogs so we wanted to knock it out quickly…

Then we did the swing set fence…because this neighbor also has several dogs…

And we ended with the stretch between those 2 neighbors….

Once all the perimeter fences were up, the side fences were added…

Then it was time for the gates. Crazy enough, this was one of the most difficult choices. But after I found this pretty style on Houzz…

My fence guy was able to recreate it to match the diagonal privacy lattice…

The fence looks quite a bit more orange in these photos than it is in real life. I took these pictures around sunset, which is likely why they look more orange.

At the last minute I decided to add a pretty arbor over the top of the left side gate…

I love it! It adds something more to this side of the house…which is closest to the future garden and is a side of the house that is seen far more than the other side, where the swing set is. Why not dress it up a bit more?…

I’m envisioning something with ivy and pretty flowers eventually growing over this….

Also a last minute decision, this great upgraded hardware…

I wasn’t planning on that, but at the last minute I asked my fence guy if he had connections…and he did. So he hooked me up with something different and fun. I love it!!!

One very small bit of fencing remains – it’s in front of the house, near the deer fence, and will be connected to a future electric gate. But for now, I’m calling this fencing job completed!

Hope you guys are having a great day!!

I -dream- of finding the funds to replace and add to my fencing. What privacy fencing I have looks quite similar to yours in the before pictures. :/

I'd Love To Hear From You!
