DIY Mother’s Day Banner

May 9

Hope my mommy friends out there have something extra special planned for yourselves! This year, my first year living back in SF as a mother (wow!), I’m hosting my mom, grandmother and sister….all the mom’s are coming here…for a casual day of eating and swimming and much celebrating.

Since everyone is coming here, I whipped up a cute little Mother’s Day banner using my Astrobrights Papers. Check this out…

I’m so not the crafty type. The organized type? Absolutely! But get me crafty and it’s usually a big flop. For some reason, however, this idea came to me when I saw the bright colored papers…so I went with it. And it doesn’t too bad, if I don’t say so myself.

Ha!

All I did was tap into my inner child to make the fan circles. Anyone can make a paper fan, right??!…

Once I made the fan, I folded it in half…

And then stapled both halves together…

Then I continued making paper fans and adding them to create a full circle…

I strung clear fishing wire through the middle and then weaved the wire up through the top to create an easy way of hanging…

I played around with colors and the size of each circle to give it a little interest…

I wanted to hang the display here because you can see the swimming pool outside the kitchen window. I didn’t want anything to obstruct the view of the pool. It was look pretty as is, but I wanted to add a little more color…

So I whipped up a super easy banner…

All I did was cut each 8 1/2 x 11 sheet into 4 squares. Then I used the kids plastic stencil set to cut out the letters. I trimmed the bottom of each letter to make it look like a felt / cloth bunting. That made the banner a little more decorative…

Then I slapped some washi tape to the top of the purple letters…

And hung the banner by taping the clear fishing line along the back…

I love the bright, happy colors!

And we can still see the pool…

If you’re hosting Mother’s Day and are in need of a quick, easy and pretty decor item, I hope this idea will help you out.

Oh, and did you spy my new kitchen table cushions? My ticking stripe cushions, that match the new bar stools, arrived just in time for this weekend’s celebration. Love these!!!…

I have a chair in the living room that covered in navy ticking stripe. The cushions kinda tie the two rooms together nicely, I think…

I’m definitely not an interior designer. I go with what makes me feel happiest…but I really do love these new cushions!
