Front Yard Update: 1/2 Walkway Completed

May 30

More front yard progress to share – Half of the front path is complete! And I LOVE it! Hard to believe how far I’ve come out here in the front. So much has changed since last June. And I’m down to the details like wrapping up this path and adding a few hedges, plants and flowers. Then – a break. Finally!

A quick look back at recent front yard shots. Remember my glamorous plywood path?…

Beyond thrilled to have the majority of the dirt covered up now. Remember all. that. dirt. ???

Next came planning out the paths with spray paint…

Once that was decided, the bend-a-board was set…

I spent a few hours at a local masonry supply company checking out various stones for the pathways. Lots of options, but I ended up with a beautiful natural stone in a color called Kandla Grey. The color compliments the gray driveway nicely. I purchased 24 24 x 24 stones and 48 12 x 24 stones to create a pretty pattern on the walkway. I also purchased pea gravel that is a slightly darker gray to set the stones in place.

With the help of my gardener, it took just 4-5 hours to set this first path…from the driveway to the front door…

Once the stones were set, we watered the pea gravel and it acted as a cement to really hold those stones firmly in place. And here it is…

I LOVE it! L O V E! I mean, sure – I would take anything over dirt. But this really is so pretty and exactly what I was hoping the outcome would look like!

We ran into an issue that kept us from finishing the path from the front door to the left side gate. Turns out we have a drainage issue from the new front lawn sprinklers. So, that will get worked on this weekend and hopefully the remaining path will be in place so I can share that end result next week. In the meantime, I’ve been seeing this glorious dirt view…

But not for long! It will be covered and looking very pretty very soon! Did you spy those holes in the dirt too?…

Those are soon to be filled with hedges, hydrangeas and more. Can Not Wait for that!!!

In the meantime, I’m really enjoying living back in the civilized world…with a real pathway to the front door!…

To be continued…

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the progress.

  7. I'm a neat freak and many have suggested I have a bit of ocd, I might be a bit nervous if I were to do this because I'd be out sweeping the pea gravel off the stones, is that a problem?
