8 Organizing Solutions In My Own Home

Jan 30

Recently, I was quoted in a great article written by Elle Decor. You can see it here. Thank you, Elle Decor, for including me!

The writer reached out to professional organizers to inquire about organizing products they personally own and love. I liked the idea of participating in this article because, as professionals, we really know what is worth the buy…or what’s a hard pass.

Honestly, I can recommend more products that I own, but let’s start here or my post will get extremely long. lol!

By the way, the article includes 23 products recommended by professional organizers so it’s worth a scan to see if anything resonates.

1. Elfa Drawer Sets

We are currently renting a home and the closets are basic builder-grade types with one standard shelf and rod combo. Since I won’t invest in these closets with a full build-out, I’ve added tons of function to our closets with items like these drawers

I strategically placed this row on this side in order for my short hang to be directly above. I have a similar set-up in my children’s closets as well.

These Elfa drawer units come in several heights and widths, making them customizable to fit your space and needs. They also come in other colors.

2. Clear Drawer Organizers

Specifically these new Everything Drawer Organizers from The Container Store. These are available in a couple depths and several lengths / widths. They are extremely cost effective…and have grippy feet to keep from sliding.

We recently used them in a small business office’s kitchen space because you can see how beautifully they fit in this drawer…and with the drawer being white, clear is a nice option…

But they can be used virtually anywhere. I have these in my bathroom drawers, office drawers, vanity and junk drawer…

You can also use these in a garage…

This pertains to all of the products I am sharing, but these transition from space to space if needed. I love products that serve many purposes, can move from room to room or transition from phase to phase with families.

3. Bamboo Drawer Organizers

Personally and professionally, I prefer these bamboo drawer organizers for a kitchen rather than the clear organizers shared above.

These come in a variety of widths and lengths, can be customized to your drawer and are stackable in the event you have deep drawers.

I have these in my kitchen, butler’s pantry and wet bar.

4. Magazine Files

Yes, I do contain actual magazines in a couple of these in my home, but where they really come in handy? Organizing office supplies!

On this wall of my office, you can see the 4 white boxes on the bottom. These contain labeling sheets, notepads, and business resources. I have another row of these on another wall in my office where I store stickers, cards, card stock paper, laminating supplies, sheet protectors, folders and more.

Why I love these is because they conceal the contents but stand vertical. It’s a great use of space and keeps you from shoving items in piles into a cabinet or drawer. They come in handy! Also a lot of colors available.

5. Clear Bins

Clear bins with a little handle can be used in many spaces around your home. I use these in the bathroom cabinet, our pantry and the linen closet for overflow beauty products.

The brand I like the most is also from the Everything Organizer line from The Container Store. It’s a great price point compared to The Home Edit bins. These have a divider, come in different widths / lengths, and can be stacked.

You can see in the photo here the various sizes, which means you can really organize your stuff based on volume and make the most of every inch.

6. Flocked Hangers

There is no perfect hanger on the market, but if I had to chose one (for now) it would be the slim, flocked hanger. You can buy these anywhere nowadays, but the most cost-effective one I found is on Amazon.

In this closet I was able to fit a large amount of golf shirts and quarter zips. Moreso than his previous plastic tube hangers. They really do help maximize space. These come in a variety of colors.

In all of our closets I have the white flocked hangers.

7. Stacking Drawers

I love using stacking drawers like these under a bathroom sink…

We are all annoyed by those pipes and tubes, but these drawers make it easy to create order and can be stacked around the middle pipe if you wish.

Under this sink I have drawers and clear bins that are made to sit neatly on top of the drawers. Helps so much with this major pain point space!

8. Baskets…Of All Sizes

Baskets are an amazing way to conceal virtually anything. Whether they have a lid or not. Somehow, corralling everything into a basket makes it feel and seem more orderly, right?

I have a basket for our throw blankets, baskets for out of season clothing on top closet shelves, baskets at the top of the pantry for backstock food, baskets in the laundry room cabinets to sort categories, a basket for our cats toys…you get the picture.

There’s so many baskets on the market but one of my favorites is this one. I also like finding unique baskets from antique stores / markets.

Hope this was a useful post and especially if you are still in the New Year mindset of decluttering and organizing.

Bye for now – xoxo,

Sam
