old food packaging = new drawer organizers

Apr 16

this drawer in the laundry room had become a thorn in my side for the last few years months…

the problem is the drawer never had a real purpose. it collected random items that landed in the laundry room or items that eventually needed to be returned to where they should be…like tools, misc sports items, cords, etc.

the only items that should be in the drawer are related to our new cat. his food is located on the counter right above the drawer…

since we have a 2 year old, cat food and water bowls sitting on the floor = bad idea. instead, the cat easily hops up onto the counter to eat. and because he eats on that counter, it makes sense to keep his food and other supplies in this drawer.

the drawer is just shallow/deep/wide enough that i couldn’t find a perfect drawer organizer. i also don’t like to spend a lot of money on drawer organizers, if i can help it. then i remembered my small stockpile of boxes…

turns out the small stack on the left = works perfectly inside the drawer!…

win-win-win: i needed drawer organizers…i had these on hand hoping they would eventually serve a purpose…and they didn’t cost me anything!

i can’t believe how perfectly the old food boxes fit inside the drawer. what are the chances of that happening?

the drawer is now beautifully organized and nothing is going to flop or slide around when i open/close the drawer. there is now a defined space for cat food, cat treats, and cat toys…

there is a small spot for “junk” to land…again, small spot! which means this drawer can’t accumulate random items anymore. and since there was still room to be utilized, i was able to contain our vacuum bags and vacuum air freshener tabs inside the drawer too!…

doesn’t this drawer look so much better?…once again, theΒ before:

after:

the drawer now has a real purpose and the organizers cost me nothing. happy girl!…

Hi, would love to see pics of your new cat. I found a stray outside in my landscaping giving birth in 30 degree weather on 3/31. Thankfully the mama isnt too feral and allowed me to bring her and the kitties all in, I put them in the bathroom with lots of nice sunlight and I brought it a portable tv and play movies for them, they actually watch it. She had 6, but two died, one I was bottle feeding, but it had a cleft pallet and the food was not making it down quite like it should have, and for an unknown reason one more died. They then all came down with pink eye and an upper respiratory infection. I have my hands full. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats of my own, my only children no hubby either (boo). I hope someday to see your kids. You dont have to say their names, or call them by initials. Enjoy all your helpful tips and hopefully it will all start to rub off on me. LOL! Hugs from Chicago, Genah

    • hi genah!

thank you so much for the sweet comment and for visiting my blog! sounds like you have your hands full! πŸ™‚ our cat was a stray too. he found us in the fall and is now a permanent member of our family. such a sweet cat! at some point i am sure to share a photo of 2 of him. i'm still not too sure about sharing the names of or photos of our children. i'm easing into this blog thing sloooooowly and am sort of enjoying having some amount of privacy. you know what they say – whatever you put in the internet is there forever. so i can very careful about that. i do wish i could share them with you and everyone though – they are pretty darn cute! πŸ™‚

      thank you again so much!!!!!
