aaaaannnddd…i’ve had some in this other cabinet here…
no idea why i would have placemats in 2 areas…but that is life as a busy parent.
this little project was quickly bumped up on my to-do list when this weekend my husband and i made a stop at 2 of our favorite stores – williams-sonoma and pottery barn. these stores are located next door to one another at a local outdoor mall and they both had “summer sale” signs in the entry. here are a few items we grabbed on sale…
these beautiful hot mitts from williams-sonoma on sale for $5.99 each…
the hot mitts are so pretty i didn’t want to use them last night while making dinner :-).
we also grabbed these beautiful light blue placemats…
i love everything about these – color, texture and the scalloped edges…
we grabbed this awesome tray from pottery barn too – for $19.99…
with the new placemats, it gave me that much-needed push to go through our inventory, weed out and re-organize. after sorting, these were the keepers…
when it came to putting them back in the drawer, i was looking for ease of grabbing and the ability to see what we have. previously, i had been placing them in the drawer in one large stack. but when it was time to grab a set, i had to pull out the entire stack to get the placemats i wanted. this time i tried rolling them…like i did with my husband’s t-shirts…
nice!
so much better!…
the bottom drawer now holds the plastic/kids placemats…this would include some of my personal favorites. like the turkey handprint our 6 year old made in 2010 (yes, his birthday is today – he is officially SIX!)…
for the kids/plastic placemats i staggered them in order to easily find the holidays, etc…
i always love getting a bag of donations out of the house too…
i purged quite a few old placemat sets, including many we received as wedding gifts – 9 years ago.
and i would say it was definitely time for a new set of hot mitts…
how do you organize your placemats? the plastic placemats are a challenge to store away, but i am loving this rolled method for the cloth placemats. let me know how you organize your collection!
Great idea to roll the placemats! I have mine stored in our laundry room. Makes zero organizational sense right now. You have inspired me to mice them to our dining room buffet!
hi karen!
thank you! let me know if you end up moving yours! i think this system is going to work much better for us. 🙂
best,
samantha
Hi Samantha: A good way of storing the placemats. I definitely need a better way to store mine, so this gave me a starting point. I have plastic flat ones as well as fabric ones, but my storage area is different than yours, so I will need to come up with a way to stack the rolled mats so they take up less space–a pretty box the right size would probably work. Thank you for all the good inspiration!
Lovely idea…I went strait to my cupboard and rolled up my placemats 🙂
