I do realize it’s February, not August. But what better time than now to re-organize and tweak your homework station? As we head into Spring cleaning mode, we still have a few months of school remaining. And I’m here to inspire you with a sweet little homework station I organized for a very special client. This is a go-getter mom who not only is the best mother to 2 absolutely adorable little girls, she also volunteers quite a bit at their school AND she’s the co-creator of a thoughtful holiday tradition that is sure to come across your radar very soon. See more about their tradition here!
With her busy schedule, this small area needed some TLC…
It’s a small desk space located between her garage door access and the kitchen…
With the girls now of homework age, she wanted to clean up the space and give them a peaceful, inspiring space to work in…
It’s easy for a spot like this to become a dumping ground for any and everything. It’s located in the main walkthrough…
There’s also a closet / pantry located directly behind this desk space…
I wanted to organize this pantry as well since it could act as overflow storage for the desk area. Everything out, touched and sorted…
Once everything was clean, I got to work putting it all away. Mom wanted a space for the girls to hang homework and art they were proud of and these 2 boards from The Container Store worked perfectly. They are a pin board as well as magnetic. The cup stuck to the wall safely holds push-pins and I used 3 Command Hooks to hang 3 adorable little pails for small homework supplies…
The green hanging baskets were a good idea, but Mom was having trouble getting into them or knowing what was inside. I swapped out the baskets for these 2 Martha Stewart wall system pieces…
She had 2 additional black wall hooks that I installed for her creating a spot for both of the girls’ backpacks as well as Mom’s purse. Now when they walk into the house, bags are up off the floor…
The old clunky computer wasn’t being used anymore and was prepared for recycling. They now have a clean desktop to do homework or use their laptop…
When I work with clients I do my best to re-use what they have. In this case, I used those green baskets in the pantry to contain Mom’s stationary and notecards. I used just a few new bins to store crafting and homework supplies she didn’t want the girls having total access to…
In just a couple hours from this…
To this bright, cheery and open homework station…that’s very organized too!…
It’s not too late to fine-tune and tweak that homework station you have going on. If you don’t have the space for a station like this, I’ve shared a free-standing version as well right here…
Happy homework organizing, friends!
This before and after is amazing! The hanging buckets are so cute!
Awe, thank you so much!! Love the hanging buckets too – just $1 from Target!

Can I simply say what a comfort to find somebody that
actually understands what they are talking about over the internet.
You definitely understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
A lot more people should check this out and understand this side of your story.
I was surprised you are not more popular since you certainly have the gift.
Wow! Not sure if this compliment was intended for me (as there is a link to CNN here) but I’ll take it. At least I know what I’m talking about when it comes to organizing! haha!
Thank you!
Sam
Thats really interesting article!
