Bye Home Office, Hello New Planner!

Jun 5

Had a couple “moments” during the last week. First, how is it already June?! Second, my entire home office collection sold in less than 3 hours! (photos/story below) How is the school year already coming to an end? And finally, how is it I’m already 1 year into my Erin Condren planner?

Seriously. Is it just me or is 2017 flying? It seems to be whizzing past. Some years feel slower, some quicker. 2017 is definitely a quick one!

Let’s start with a home office update. Last summer, I mentioned my dream of updating the home office. The space is generous but my furniture, which worked really well in the Arkansas house, is too bulky for this loft. If you haven’t seen my home office, have a peek here

And here

The home office in this house is located at the top of the stairs and situated outside the master bedroom / bathroom. August will mark 4 years in this house and I’ve made the set work. But things have changed in that time. I find myself needing more work surface (for me and the kids) and way less filing space. So much of my work involves designing and I work better with more space to spread out all the papers. The kids have big homework projects too. So I’m considering options that include more surface. And since I’m leaning more on digital organizing, there is less need for those 3 huge filing drawers…

Can’t wait to share how this space transforms to lighter, brighter and open / spacious!

I was totally blown away, however, when I listed the furniture and had a buyer within a few hours. I credit that to having taken great care of this set, which I’ve owned for nearly TEN years…and the fact it’s a classic Pottery Barn set-up. When you go with classics, they tend to re-sell easier. It sold for a fair amount too – $900! Not bad for having owned it that long.

So, you may be wondering what my current office looks like with the furniture gone, right? Nothing that 2 folding tables can’t solve!…

Not gonna lie, I’m loving the minimalist vibe!…

You can already see the improvement in space with the clunky corner desk outta here. The room feels bigger because I can see and feel more of the floor.

Anyway, details to come soon!

Moving on, let’s talk planners!

I am so so sooooo excited about my new planner for the “new year”. I say new year in quotes because it’s a new year for my planner. The Erin Condren planner I order begins in July. Last year was my first time trying an EC planner and shared my hesitation about making the leap. Over time, I grew to love the smaller-to-me size. Mid year, I even ordered a larger EC planner for goal & business tracking. I never thought I’d be on the planner bandwagon, but she’s got me wrapped!

** Sidenote: I am not getting paid or sponsored to write about this planner. This is something I truly love and am sharing just to share!

Was excited to browse the selection of covers. Last year my cover was permanent…

It held up really well considering it was toted around all year in my work bag. This year I opted for a plastic, removable cover

The hourly layout is awesome so I again stuck with that feature for this year…

At the speed this year is moving, I’ll be adding Christmas cheer before we know it!…

The realization I needed a new planner hit me when the school calendars for next year arrived in my email. I needed the planner to get me through next June, so I placed my order…gladly. I’ve been having so much fun plugging in dates and feeling ahead of the game. I have all of the school holidays added, which helps tremendously when booking client appointments.

If you want to try out an EC planner this year, don’t forget you receive a $10 discount with my referral code!

How are you guys doing with end of the year madness? One of my kiddos had his last day last week, but my other 2 still have this week to get through. There’s a lot of activity and parties…and it’s just really hard to swallow the fact another school year has passed. They have grown and changed so much in just 9 months! Hope you are either enjoying your first week of summer or not feeling too stressed during these last few weeks. Have a great day!

I too love a paper planner vs electronic (and find it visually easier to stay on top of things) but I am always worried about losing it…So now I keep it mostly electronic and only write it out week to week. Do you maintain both?

    • Samantha says:

      Hi there,

I don’t keep anything for my calendar digital. I’ve tried to do that on occasion, but because so much of what I schedule has notes attached…it’s just been easier for me to keep my planner. Now, with to-do lists – I’m all digital no issue there. And I keep it all in an app called “todoist”. It’s my favorite app for to-do lists. So I don’t maintain both a paper and digital planner – just paper! 🙂

Im much prefer paper planner over digital because I like visual and see what I make thing that I need to get done for the day. Otherwise I would love to try digital files because we are living in an apartment so we will have to move again next year when rent is up. I would like to see less paper as possible.

    • Samantha says:

I’m a visual person too, so I totally get it! I have been successful in managing my to-do lists digitally, however, which has been interesting. I think I love doing them digitally because I can access them anywhere. For example, today at Target I was able to quickly check over a to-do list to see I could grab a few things from Target, instead of the hardware store. Saved me a trip!

      xx,
      Sam

I'd Love To Hear From You!
